My First Impressions On Kyuuranger Before It Even Airs!

This just in from JEFusion they have given an update on Kyuranger, I'd like to give my first impressions before it even airs. Zyuohger will end some time in February then Kyuranger will air on February 12, 2017. Here's my thoughts so far.

The plot... but let's see how it'll turn out

Here's what JEFusion reveals about the plot. Credit also goes to Toku Nation:

Set in the distant future in a universe ruled by the evil Jack Matter organization, nine individual, each representing different constellations of their home world, has been chosen top become the protectors called Kyuurangers.

So how are the nine rangers going to come together? Will we first see a group of five then they're progressively added? I hope so. I feel that the show will not be a very typical Super Sentai. There are times I feel that Super Sentai needs to jump off the time frame every now and then. Before Ohranger was supposedly retconned it was aired in 1995 but the year was 1999. Jetman only took place in 199X without a specific year. Only Flashman, Maskman, GoGoFive, Timeranger and Go-Busters had it on the viewer's faces that their plot taking place in the same year that the series were aired namely 1986, 1987, 1999, 2000 and 2012 though I may have missed a lot more.

This is what I'd call breaking the mold. Space-themed Tokusatsu was already done in old school though I can only mention Gavan, Sharivan, Shaider, Spielban, Juspion, Changeman, Flashman and in extension Dekaranger (a huge homage to Space Sheriff series with elements of Rescue Police) but most of the battles took place on Earth. I don't think Kyuranger will take place on Earth and may actually improve on the Terra Venture concept that Lost Galaxy didn't explore too well.

The ranger cast is probably the mold breaker we need...

It looks like these guys are the primary team. I guess the other four will just join in progressively (or not). But I find the introduction interesting. Here it goes:

The Kyuurangers are composed of humanoids, aliens and robotic members. Each of them were chosen by the Kyutamas.

Shishi Red/Lucky (Takumi Kizu) - A traveling warrior from outer space who was born from the Shishi system.

Chameleon Green/Hammy (Sakurako Ookuba) - A space ninja from the Chameleon system.

Kaijiki Yellow/Spada (Tetsuji Sakakihara) - A cook from the Kaijiki system who's main goal in life is to become a top chef of the universe.

Hebitsukai Silver/Naga Ray (Taiki Yamazaki) - An emotionless warrior from the Hebitsukai system.

Sasori Orange/Stinger (Yousuke Kishi) - A mysterious warrior from the Scorpio system.

Now for the non-humanoid ones. Here's what's currently known about them:

Ookami Blue/Garu - A half man, half beast from the Ookami system.

Tenbin Gold/Balance - A mechanical life form and thief from the Tenbin system.

Oushi Black/Champ - A robotic wrestling champion from the Oushi system.

Wahis Pink/Laputa283 - A pilot android from the Washi system.

If there are humanoids or aliens then this may be a Star Trek x Super Sentai series type of formula. The Gokaigers were the first team of aliens (minus Gai Ikari) but the battle took place on Earth. So they're born from different systems. This is taking a stretch to Flashman's five rangers grown in five different planets in some "lost galaxy" since they're all born in different systems. With the technology available I think it's possible to have a Star Trek type Tokusatsu.

The staff that will work with the series behind the scenes

Here's also the interesting reveal:

Veteran tokusatsu writer Nobuhiro Mori (Kamen Rider OOO and Kamen Rider Gaim) will be writing the series while Takayuki Shibasaki of Zyuohger will be directing and Hirofumi Fokuzama will take charge of the action directing. The show's music will be scored by Kousuke Yamashita where the opening song will be entitled "Lucky Star" and the ending theme will be called "Kyuutama Dancing". The series will be produced by TV Asahi's Motoi Sasaki.

It's too early to judge Nobuhiro Mori but knowing he's involved in two of my favorite post-Decade Kamen Riders namely OOO and Gaim I hope it'll turn out okay. Also, Hirofumi Fokuzawa is part of the Red Action Club as well as involved in Gransazers, Justirizers and Sazer-X. This may be the huge leap that Super Sentai or for Toei's list of Tokusatsu would need to get things up and going. Will this be the start of a new formula for Super Sentai or will we get an entirely new genre? Either way, it may be a win-win situation.

Episode 43: Merry Christmas From The Zyuohgers!

I can't exactly say how I feel. It's past December 25 and I'm writing a belated Christmas review. I admit, I'm getting excited to see how Kyuranger may turn out (it may not be the usual Super Sentai which may be a good thing) as well as more episodes of Kamen Rider EX-AID. Let's get started shall we?

Sooner or later, the Zyumen will have to reveal themselves and that's what Yamato's uncle will learn. It's not easy being a Sentai warrior isn't it? In this episode, we see the Zyumen help sell a lot of cake in their truest form. Yamato's uncle also learns that his favorite nephew is actually Zyuoh Eagle. Fortunately, there's no Misao feeling sorry for himself in this episode.... it may make my planned Zyuohger rewatch a bigger pain than Hojo's antics in Kamen Rider Agito. The episode is kind of typical with a graffiti themed monster in rampage.

Next week, I can't wait to see how Yamato's uncle will accept the truth in the New Year Special. Don't expect an instant review from this opinion blog though. As for news, leave it to JEFusion and Orends Range to give you updates on toys, casting and stuff. I'm just here to be a reactive guy. =P

Other Sentai Warriors Who Had Issues With Their Fathers

After seeing this week's Zyuohger where Yamato finally meets his estranged father face to face, I was inspired to write this post. Here are a couple of Super Sentai warriors who had issues with their fathers. Let's take a look at them from past to present.

Warning! Spoilers ahead!

Futoshi Kijima/Goggle Yellow

Okay, I was just a little kid when I first saw this episode dubbed in Tagalog and I haven't seen much of Goggle V either. Futoshi's father is upset by his son's decision to join the Goggle V team. This was resolved at the end of the episode.

Shiro Gou/Red One

Shiro's father arrived pretty late in the series. At first, he appears as the mysterious Dr. Shibata who turned out to be Doctor Man's former friend and rival. Doctor Man figured out that Dr. Shibata was none other than Shiro's supposedly deceased father Shinichiro Gou. Shiro always thought his father was either dead or abandoned him. It was touching to see how Shinichiro shared his regrets having no choice but to leave them in an effort to stop his former friend Doctor Man. Shinichiro sacrificed himself so the Biomen can get out of their captivity. Shinichiro offered his dying words towards his son Shiro and Doctor Man's son Shuichi.

Megumi Misaki/Blue Dolphin

Megumi's father appears in episode 27 of Liveman. Megumi got into a conflict with her father wanting her to find a husband as soon as possible. Her father realizes that she's a Liveman and that she must be allowed to face her destiny.

Ryou/Ryuuranger

At the introductory arc of Dairanger (which led to Dairenou), we know Ryou's actually the son of Choryuu and a modern day woman. This doesn't sit too well since his father defected to the Gorma causing a Luke Skywalker vs. Darth Vader relationship. Even the whole death scene nearly reminded me of Return of the Jedi when Darth Vader finally came back to his senses. Choryu sacrificed himself so Dairenou can be formed allowing the Dairangers to defeat an enlarged High Priest Saw.

Kou/Kibaranger

This is another reason why Kou's not just another gimmick child ranger. He's got this cool backstory where he doesn't realize that Shadam is actually his father. So how did that secret get hidden in the first place? He does know Akomaru is his twin brother so why didn't he know Shadam was his father? Shadam tried to reveal to him the truth too late though but it didn't work. The ending does leave us to decide on what happened with our imaginations though. So far, he's the only Sentai warrior whose father is a villain.

The Tatsumi Siblings

Unlike the Hoshikiwa family, the Tatsumi family believed their father abandoned them for no reason then one day he appears in front of them. This causes a huge shock and the children don't want to easily accept their father. Perhaps the one with the biggest father issue among them is Nagare since he follows in their father's footsteps. Mondo Tatsumi had no choice but to leave them in preparation for the inevitable event that the Saima Clan should one day return. As the series progressed it's revealed that he's had a lot of regret not telling his children sooner why he had to go. Shades of Voltes V's Kentaro Gou also known as Baron Lagour anyone?

Tatsuya Asami/Time Red

Tatsuya himself faces the problem of wanting to establish his own future vs. a father who thinks that everyone must face that path. This resulted to Tatsuya leaving his home when he became a Timeranger. This situation becomes worse when Wataru found out that his son Tatsuya was indeed a Timeranger. Wataru wanted to use the City Guardians as a profiteering organization which Tatsuya questioned his father's motives of how much is enough money. Tatsuya nearly took over their company when Captain Ryuya appeared and temporarily took over as Time Red. Both father and son are reconciled after the final battle.

Yukito Sanjo/Abare Blue

I guess this is why Yukito's a greedy douche in some way. It's no thanks to his father Souichirou Sanjo who appeared in episodes 15-16. Souichirou's a greedy bastard whose entire life revolves around money. I guess that's where Yukito got his tendencies to become really greedy and manipulate others for self-benefit.

The Ozu Siblings

Like the GoGoFive family they are estranged from their father while they were still children. This is because Wolzard is actually their long lost father Isamu Ozu. They have no idea at first Wolzard is their father. Like Dr. Tatsumi, Isamu himself was forced to abandon his family for an important mission. Isamu's self-sacrifice turned him into Wolzard while he was trying to seal N-Ma. He was later reunited with his wife and children in the finale arc.

Satoru Akashi/Bouken Red

The Boukenger movie introduced Satoru's super annoying father Kouichi. He's done more nuisance in the film than contributing to the plot material. In fact, I felt like he shouldn't have appeared in the movie if all he did for most of its run was annoy almost everyone. Both father and son have a very different perspective of what it means to be an adventurer. Good thing he didn't reappear in the series or it's time to ship him off to outer space permanently.

Mako Shiraishi/Shinken Pink

Mako didn't grow up with a normal childhood. I assumed maybe her parents were divorced though episode 34 revealed that wasn't the case. Her father Mamoru returned after taking care of her ailing mother Kyoko while she was left behind with her presumably deceased samurai grandmother (maybe on Kyoko's side, Mako's dad doesn't look like he's one) as a child. When her father wanted to take her back she showed that she had a mission to keep and children to save. She later went to Hawaii to spend more time with her parents.

Daigo Kiryu/Kyoryu Red

Daigo's father father Dantetsu Kiryu killed Torin and supposedly betrayed the Kyoryugers. It was revealed that Dantetsu's killing Torin was part of the plan to allow the latter to fight Deboth monsters before they can reach the surface.

Souji Rippukan/Kyoryu Green

Souji's basically messed up as his parents are not only divorced but his father is too traditional. He beleived that his father Genryu's strictness caused his mother Reiko Tanba to leave them. He would earn his father's respect by making up new sword styles in battle. Later his parents managed to reconcile their differences later in the series.

Missed any? Let me know!

Zyuohger 42: Yamato's Daddy Issues And Kubar's End!

It's too predictable that the man Yamato meets in the hospital is his estranged father. Yamato's had it rough seeing his mother die in front of him and his father's a pretty cold individual. This raises the question whether or not Yamato and his father will reconcile. I'll be writing a post on Sentai warriors with father issues so watch out for it.

It's been several episodes and Misao annoys me with his pessimistic attitude. Then again, it's a reflection of my self-doubt that tends to kill me. Still, I find him to be my least liked character. He's gotten hurt no thanks to Kubar. But after seeing his friends fight Kubar, he manages to get a temporary boost. My problem with Zyuohger right now is how long did it take them to actually get him to develop from his pessimistic state? Hopefully this is a mistake that won't be carried on to future installments of Super Sentai.

Next week is a Christmas Day episode. My short review may come out pretty late. Hopefully Super Sentai will get out of the slump it's in.

Zyuohger 41: Kubar's Past Is Partly Revealed!

This week's Zyuohger starts to reveal a little more about Kubar. Why was he planning to betray Master Genis? It turns out that no surprise or surprise (take your pick) that he actually lost his people to Genis during one of the Blood Games. I guess that makes him angry as ever to realize that he's been manipulated. He uses the arm of the deceased Bangray to get more memories and to attack the Zyuohgers. He also sets a brilliant scheme to try and defeat the others.

Genis has a pretty cool transformation after he uses Cube Whale's data. Kubar reveals to Genis that the former already knew the truth. This doesn't sit too well and Genis reveals a pretty badass transformation making everyone chill their spines. To prove he's no pushover he also has the memories created by Kubar to go after the latter. It also turns out that an illusion of Misao was created.

Surprising or not, Misao is held somewhere. I really feel bad about what happened. So he's badly beaten and what's going to happen next?

Next episode, is this man... Yamato's father?! I can't wait to see it!

Zyuohger 40: Leo Teaches True Manliness!

As expected, this week's episode is quite an improvement from the last one. Last week wasn't all too good but this week... Leo shines again. Is it me or does Leo seem to get a lot of good plots? Here he teaches a child what it means to be a man.

We're addressing the issue of bullying and why you shouldn't fight back. The child tried to fight back but Leo stops him telling him that real men don't enact revenge. I'm reminded of that Maskman episode where a bullied child learns what true strength really is about.

Leo also does some out of suit beating up the monster before the others help him finish the job. It was nice to see him do the same thing against Sumotron but here he gets a little more spotlight. I wish though that he made the monster so badly hurt before joining the others to finish it.

Next week, Genis finally shows up in person to attack the Zyuohgers in person. What secrets about Kubar will soon be revealed? What's Genis going to do this time? I can't wait to find out!

Will Kyuranger Change The Way Super Sentai Does Things For The Better?

Here's the first promotional leak of Kyuranger which comes from JEFusion. Nine rangers? I don't know how's that even going to work. I feel like maybe we might see another new era of Super Sentai to be born after Zyuohger "ends" it. I feel like Super Sentai always had the tendency to have a "finale" series (which I may discuss later like Jetman and Timeranger) while after that finale series an entirely new era is born. Then the cycle starts again. So was Gokaiger really a "finale" series. Looks like it but sad to say the need for another "fresh start" may be badly needed due to diminishing ratings.

My current speculation is that we're probably going to start with either three or five then the rest will come in. I think this might be a mold breaker the way things were done. Dekaranger did have five rangers, Doggie Kruger can be considered another ranger, then we have Tetsu (a regular sixth ranger), Lisa (Tetsu's mentor), Marigold (who appeared in the movie) and Swan (who can only use her for twice in the series) which gave a total of ten. Go-onger had a total of seven rangers. Kyoryuger had five plus one regular sixth ranger yet we also had Kyoryu Cyan and Kyoryu Silver as irregular rangers. I don't that will be the case with Kyuranger. I think we'll see them progressively added in (hopefully) to avoid the story from moving too fast though it may be a transition towards a new type of series.

Just an important note: changes have done things for the better or for the worse. If you take a look at the ups and downs of Super Sentai you'll see how it's never been a straight road up but there are ups and downs. Progress is like climbing a series of mountains where you must go down the plains then start climbing all over again. Fiveman nearly ended Super Sentai due to its lack of popularity while Jetman brought it back on its feet. Ohranger, Carranger and Kyoryuger had lower ratings but were fortunate enough to have high toy sales. Gaoranger was pretty much a monster hit which may have put a lot of its successors under its shadow even with all the new innovative ideas.

It's too early for me to say how Kyuranger will fare when it comes. Right now, Zyuohger may still be hitting low for some reason. Is it intense competition against Anime (especially Pokemon) or are some fans just taking a short break from the series? Hopefully, Kyuranger will outdo itself to spawn another generation of Super Sentai or will it end up be the transition to creating an all new genre of Tokusatsu that will replace Super Sentai? Either way let's hope that the outcome will still be beneficial for profit sharing.

My Top Ten Picks For Best Super Sentai Christmas Specials For 2016!

Since it's already December, I could kick start with a post of my top ten picks for Christmas specials. Remember this are just my personal preferences so don't get so onion-skinned if I disagree with you or if your favorite isn't here. Here's the list and I'll explain why each one is my personal favorite and note some of these may not even come from my favorite seasons or from less popular shows and Christmas specials from shows I have extreme favoritism towards aren't even here.

Shuriken Sentai Ninninger (Shinobi 40-42)

As much as I don't like Ninninger since I have my extreme favoritism towards Hurricanger (which I like better than Kakuranger, sorry Kaku fans!) but it was fun to actually see the three parter. First, we had a good message about being careful of people who give scams on Christmas. The next two parts involved a fun party game. It may feel kind of kiddie but it can still be enjoyed by an adult. It was pretty entertaining nonetheless.

Mahou Sentai Magiranger (Stages 41-42)

It's no secret that I really hate Magiranger and I want to blame Houka as the main reason why. I admit I absolutely don't like it but I can't deny that the Christmas special was still pretty interesting. Houka was probably in her best behavior for that year. Though I wish Santa Claus existed in Magiranger's continuity to at least give her a mountain of coal. The two part battle was pretty well done. But the rest of the series? I choose not to rewatch it. Houka's left a bad taste in my mouth.

Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger (Braves 41-42)

Abaranger's given one Christmas special but I feel it's too generic. I don't like Kyoryuger overall in spite of the cool action scenes but I don't deny that it has a better Christmas special than Kyoryuger. It's one of those moments that I could like about a show I dislike. Abaranger's Dezumozoryla could have used this kind of focus during Abaranger rather than just another generic stupid take over the world scheme. In spite of theme overuse at least this is among a few things that I could still like about Kyoryuger even if I think Abaranger did better for majority of the latter's run. I might decide to prepare a review anytime soon even if I really don't like the show.

Engine Sentai Go-onger (Grand Prix 43-44)

Go-onger's a comedic show but this among a few serious moments and the Christmas episode is definitely one of them. The first time Santa Claus appeared was in Kakuranger. Go-onger managed to improve the two parter. Instead of just focusing on a half-brained scheme to ruin Christmas, we get to see another side of stuff. It involves Kirezuki's plan to blow up the whole city, there's a terrorist attack that's halted to save a group of children and I find it to be a really epic battle.

Gekisou Sentai Carranger (41-43)

When I look at these episodes, I'm convinced that Emperor Exhaus is probably a lot smarter than Emperor Ragorn was in Turboranger. Emperor Exhaus developed his ultimate plan to ruin Christmas for the Carrangers before he plans to ruin Christmas for everyone else. I guess Exhaus parodies the fact that only a few Super Sentai villains ever think that they need to get rid of the rangers before they can take over the world. All three episodes featured epic goodness and I liked how Zonette's relationship with Kyousuke was fleshed out here. Just imagine if Poison Ivy warned Batman about an impending attack against the latter!

Denji Sentai Megaranger (42-43)

It's a real Mega-battle before Christmas isn't it? This was also the epic destruction of the Nezirangers before they returned as ghosts for the three part Hinelar City Arc. Only Nezire Red, Nezire Yellow and Nezire Black remain to beat the Megarangers. In this episode, Dr. Hinelar seems to have a win/lose scenario in some way but he still gets a present. The Megarangers get rewarded for their victory and Dr. Hinelar finally takes over Nezire Kingdom. Though I wish Dr. Kubota's past with Dr. Hinelar could have been also added.

Go-Busters 44
Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters (Missions 43-44)

In this case, I feel this did Christmas specials better than what Gokaiger offered. The Go-Busters get to try and get into another battle with a huge risky attack. The Messiah Virus manages to return to prove its (or he's) not easily taken down. I love the whole epic battle especially when the Messiah Virus creates a super huge body. Unfortunately, the producers decided to put most of the focus on Enter after this episode. I felt like Messiah could have returned one last time and possess Enter's body for the finale before getting destroyed for good.

Gosei Sentai Dairanger (42-44)

Yet another crucial development for Dairanger isn't it? This episode again makes it a good reason why Kou does better than Justin. In this case, it's Kou's birthday on Christmas Eve to where he could become a Gorma anytime. What makes this interesting is how Kou must fight his inner demons especially against his brother while he's not even aware of it Shadam's actually his father. It's a sad, sad three parter with a bittersweet ending. Kou gets saved but at the cost of his mother and brother Akomaru. Yup it can be too late and tragedies happen during Christmas.

Mirai Sentai Timeranger (Case File 42-44)

Timeranger is pretty much a serious show and even the Christmas episodes are pretty serious. I remembered watching the really bad quality Rogue Red Ranger fansubs before (Over-Time please hurry up with Timeranger subs!). This one involves an attempt to reconcile both Tatsuya and his father Wataru. Captain Masato Kusaka Ryuya arrives to take over Tatsuya's position. It's also shown that Hojo Toru Naoto Takizawa tries to take control the City Guardians as captain. It's a pretty serious Christmas special if you ask me!

Kyukyu Sentai GoGoFive (42-43)

Personally, this is my top favorite and tries to deliver the family message the best. In this two parter, we can see a huge contrast between the bond of the Tatsumi family (especially when they realize why their father had to leave them, shades of Voltes V) and the collapse of the Saima Clan due to their mother Grand F*** THAT B*TCH Grandienne who only cares about absolute power than her own family. The episode also features the bond of a mother and a daughter who were separated but were eventually united. I might prepare a review of the two parter anytime soon.

What are your top ten picks? COMMENT!

Zyuohger 39: Huge Calories And A Lover?!

I don't care if Zyuohger's ratings have hit low but I like the season. Okay, you know I'm getting irritated by Misao but the rest of the Zyuohgers are pretty good. So here's a bit of the summary. Sela falls for a guy who's played by Hiroaki Iwanaga. If you don't know him he was a regular character in Kamen Rider OOO as Akira and he was also playing the second Shaider.

The episode has a reference to Willy Wonka in some way. People who eat the delicious cooking of the monster Chefdon. On the other hand, there's something that Kubar is planning to do with the late Bangray's hand. It turns out that Sela's lover was not only a con artist but an illusion generated from Kubar's new power. Although he tried to con her so the enemy can do divide and conquer but he does gain some heart in the end. Sela doesn't know that he's just a created illusion though.

Seeing Sela fire the gun out of suit and then do the standard morph fight scene was pretty good. Although I wish she actually force fed the food to the Chefdon so he could be destroyed. That could have been a good turn from the usual tide.

Next week, Leo will be teaching karate. Okay, we've seen the Zyuohger main cast do some out of suit fights. I guess Leo will probably stay unmorphed for a huge duration of the show. I can't wait to see it!

Was 1993 Also A "Toei's Champion Year" At Least For Shallow Minded Fanboys?

After writing on the champion years post for Tokusatsu post, I included 1993 as one of those champion years for Toei's brand of Tokusatsu. Toei released its huge hit Gosei Sentai Dairanger. On August 31 1993 we saw Toei make its triumphant entry to the American market with Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers with the help of Saban Entertainment. It was a champion year for Tokusatsu with more toy sales in both the Asian and American market. But I'd also call 1993 as a champion year for shallow minded fanboys!

Anybody could say 2009 was a "champion year" for shallow minded fanboys which could be true. I feel that Shinkenger has the eye candy and good plot needed to rinse the mind off the ultimate travesty in spandex known as Power Rangers MEGAFAIL. Though I'd suggest also watching Megaranger (the one true Mega series) and Gokaiger (the biggest anniversary gathering ever) are also needed to help rinse it off the minds of people. You've got Mako and Kotoha. It's like having Rin/Kimberly and Mei/Ako in one show. Shinkenger was just one popular show and I think Mako and Kotoha are getting too much credit. But I'd like to focus in 1993 which I thought was indeed a champion year for shallow minded fanboys.

I can't exactly determine what's in in the mind of the fanboys back when Dairanger first aired nor did I see Dairanger as a kid no thanks to ABiaS-CBN. After seeing some pictures of Mei from Zyuranger and Rin from Dairanger, While I never (and will never) find Mei prettier than Kimberly but there was a time I really found Rin prettier than Kimberly. I found Mei to be cute but not hot. But what about Rin? I was windblown by her appearance - pun intended. I found her to be really pretty and the actress Natsuki Takahashi's latest pictures shown she's actually aged gracefully. Note she's also four years younger than Amy Jo Johnson. While watching Dairanger, I do have a feeling that she more or less gets the same shallow treatment Mako gets. I do like both characters but I think Rin's been more developed. I think she's hotter than Mako but that doesn't make her better. Heck, why didn't the actress guest star as Mako's mother in Shinkenger? Plus, I wish she went to Morphicon this year!

The other even dumber reason just arrived on-screen when Mighty Morphin' first appeared. Soem even coin Kimberly as "every 90s boy's first crush". I want to differ since my first crush was actually Hikaru Kasuragi in Bioman who was also dubbed as Kimberly by Telesuccess' dubbing. Even after seeing Zyuranger I couldn't even agree with people who say Mei is prettier than she is. I still think she's way hotter than Mei though she's probably just overrated. But I think she's been the prettiest Power Rangers girl and I still think of her that way even if I don't consider her to be the greatest pink ranger ever. While I find her prettier than Mei but I think Rin always competes in that spot in the looks department. I like Kimberly as a character but she tends to be underdeveloped. Rin has shown more development than Kimberly. Unfortunately, that seemed to carry on with Mako in Shinkenger to a certain extent minus the get sick during the crossover part. Like Natsuki Takahashi, she's also aged pretty well. Until now I still find it weird she was 23 at that time but she looked younger than her actual age!

Closing words

As for that champion year, it's very easy to be stupid and say, "Duh it's because of Rin and Kimberly." like it's easy to say, "Duh! Shinkenger's the best because of Kotoha and Mako!" then I'd say "SHUT THE F*CK UP!" first to myself then to others. I can be that shallow minded myself in more than one occasion. I watched Megafail for the girls but I found myself hating that season because it was so horrible. Some of the Super Sentai seasons have really pretty girls but those seasons that don't have much of eye candy are better. I don't find Mei as pretty as Kimberly but I like Zyuranger better. I don't find the girls of Changeman or Flashman attractive but those are two shows that have a pretty good plot. Timeranger's Yuuri may not be as hot as Shinkenger's Mako but I think Timeranger is the best Super Sentai series with Yasuko Kobayashi as the head writer.

To be a bit more objective, 1993 is still a champion year regardless whether Rin and Kimberly are that hot, not that hot or not hot at all. Dairanger is a celebrated classic during its year. Mighty Morphin' gave Toei its ticket through the American market since Super Sentai airing in the U.S. as it is wouldn't get past cultural barriers. That year, Toei hit the gold pot at the end of the rainbow and neither Rin nor Kimberly being hot have anything to do with it.

Zyuohger 38: Learning More About The Brutal History Of Zyuland!

Last week, we saw the return of Bard who has actually saved Yamato as a child and decided to save him as an adult. The Bardman stole the Champion Symbol but there's a reason which I find to be very intriguing. While it looked like he was just a petty thief but there's more than meets the eye.

The history of Zyuland involved some kind of racism towards humans. Long ago, a human accidentally landed into Zyuland and Bard helped the poor fellow. The Zyumen had some insane policy ruling them that any human who accidentally discovers them would be killed. Bard thought it was so stupid and I agree with him that it's stupid. He stole the Champion Symbol to prevent such pain again.

It's nice to see the team-up between Bard and Yamato against the Zagweer Brothers. It was nice to see Yamato team up with Bard himself. The two manage to come up with pretty good synchronized movements to beat both twins together. As long as one Zagweer brother is alive the battle is never over which explains the hassle. Bard leaves the scenes. Hopefully, we'll see more developments. Sidenote, good thing there's no Misao getting pessimistic since it's really getting more annoying than Hojo's antagonistic behavior in Kamen Rider Agito.
